Mortgage Arrears
If you have ever paid your mortgage late or you are in arrears or have been in the past, your mortgage provider will have charged you for this.
Borrowers hit with exorbitant fees for going into arrears should seek compensation in tha same way that thousands of people hit with unfair bank charges already have.
The financial Ombudsman Service says that if you have been hit with excessive charges for missing a payment or for getting into arrears then you should make a complaint to your lender.
The (OFT) Office of Fair Trading says in principle that fees that banks/mortgage providers charge should mirror the true cost to the financial institutions, the same rules which are applied to current accounts and credit card penalty charges, also apply to mortgages.
The UK's largest lender ,Halifax, charges £35 for non-payment,£100 when debt collectors are sent out,and £125 for a solicitors letter.Lloyds TSB charges £10 for a first arrears letter£30 for a second ,£35 when a payment plan has been broken,£94 for a visit from debt collectors and £200 once solicitors become involved.
These fees dwarf controversial bank charges which can be anything up to £39 for a bounced cheque and the (FOS) Financial Ombudsman says that the number of complaints have grown during the last few months, which could signal the start of a consumer backlash.
If you feel you have been a victim of excessive charges on your mortgage account and wish to use our service to make a complaint then please contact us to so we can discuss whether you have a valid claim, alternatively if you want to lodge a complaint now, please enter your details where it says "start your claim"and we will; post the necessary documents out to you or you can download them yourself.
It is possible that these charges have been applied for a long time and could add up to £1000's of pounds in compensation.
We can go back 12 years to get these charges re-funded,even if you have redeemed your mortgage or moved to another provider we should still be able to help you.
We work on a no win - no fee basis and apply a charge of 20% (inclusive of vat) of any monies we recover if the claim is successful.
